Carol Howells, Clinical Lead for Older Adults Community Mental Health Team for Brent was shortlisted for a Student Nursing Times Awards, in the category of Practice Supervisor of the Year (previously Mentor of the Year).
A mental health nursing student nominated Carol for the award, and described how Carol’s guidance and compassion supported her through her mentorship programme and personal struggles.
“Having now met and worked alongside many other nurse mentors/supervisors Carol’s passion and professionalism inspired me and reminded me that as nurses we truly can make a significant positive impact on people’s lives,” said the student in her heart-warming nomination.
“Carol is the nurse I aspire to be. As a now qualified mental health nurse, I not only hope to follow in her footsteps in my nursing, but also as a student supervisor.
“To Carol- Thank you for believing in me, for showing me nurses truly can change the world, one act of kindness at a time. Every student needs a Carol!.”
Emma Barton, Service Manager at the Brent CMHT said:
“Carol works very hard to organise all the nursing students that come through the service, some at short notice, and definitely deserves to be nominated and in my opinion win. She ensures the students are supported and have a great learning experience within the very knowledgeable team.”
Philippa Galligan, Borough Director congratulated Carol on her well-deserved nomination.
“Dear Carol, I always thought you were pretty amazing but this just confirms how skilled, valued and experienced you are. I am proud that you work in Brent and work with such passion to support your patients, colleagues and students.”
The awards ceremony will be live streamed on Tuesday 27 October 2020 from 4pm to 5.15pm.
