CNWL and Holmusk have been shortlisted at the 2024 HSJ Digital Awards, which recognise innovative digital projects transforming care delivery, enhancing efficiency, and improving patient outcomes.

CNWL was shortlisted in the category of Improving Mental Health through Digital for a project using MaST to support Community Mental Health Services.

MaST (Management and Supervision Tool) is a digital solution to improve the day-to-day management of caseloads, and brings together complex information from patient records and presents it to staff in a clear and understandable way.

For example, a patient’s history using mental health services, changes in housing, employment or diagnosis, or substance dependencies can make a huge impact on care planning and decisions. Seeing a change in these factors can help indicate if a patient could go into crisis or if they might benefit from a change of care pathway.

More vulnerable people are provided the care they need quicker and those who are potentially ready to continue their care in another service are often planned for in a more proactive way. 

CNWL has adopted MaST within our Community Mental Health Teams across Westminster, Harrow, Kensington and Chelsea, Brent, Hillingdon and Milton Keynes.

Here’s what nursing colleagues have said about using MaST:

"MaST reduces admissions because you are able to provide care how it's supposed to be provided, and to come up with care plans more often. As care plans change every so often you're able to come up with new risk assessments and identify new risks. If new risks do show up, you're able to curb and manage the risk as soon as possible."

"If you're not seeing a patient for more than four weeks, then it will be able to prompt you, and it becomes a priority. It saved my time completely and it makes me focus on what I'm supposed to be focusing on."

CNWL and Holmusk are honoured to be named among the other finalists, and the official awards ceremony will be held in June.
